This property was originally a 2-storey 1970’s infill development comprising 2 apartment units, with a courtyard to the front and a compact south-facing garden to the rear.

• A new 2-storey addition of 39 sq. m. was constructed in timber-frame to the front, clad in small-format natural slate providing a durable and elegant finish to the 1^st floor facade, floating above a recessed fully-glazed ground floor plane. Other external walls are externally-insulated. A zinc-clad portal frame to the rear façade integrates a motorised retracteable sunshade awning.
• The existing layout was entirely re-configured to form a generous 3-bedroom city townhouse. The staircase is located in the centre of the plan about which the bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged, allowing light penetrate these rooms throughout the day. Large glazed rooflights allow natural light to flood the core of the house. A feature textured plaster wall runs full-height in the stairwell space.
• 2 new bathrooms were installed with level-access showers, each naturally illuminated by rooflights and natural light via windows to the stairwell.
• The significant upgrade in the building’s thermal insulation & air-tightness enabled installation of a heat-pump for heating and hot water services. A BER rating of A3 was achieved, significant for an existing house renovation. All mechanical & electrical services were replaced. Ventilation is controlled by moisture-activated sensors for intake & extract.
